Event Description:
MIDDLEBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT TO HELP BREAK WORLD RECORD
The Middlebury Fire Department is will be helping the Elkhart County 4H Fair in its attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest single-day food drive. The Elkhart County Fair has named its quest the "ALL IN" Food Drive as it attempts to collect at least 565,000 pounds of food items in a 24-hour period.
The Middlebury Fire Department hopes to fill an ambulance with food collected during the July Middlebury 3rd Fridays block party to be held on Friday, July 18th. Food items may be brought to the Middlebury Fire Station from 5 - 8 pm. The Fire Department will then transport all food collected on Sunday or Monday to make sure that the food from Middlebury is included in the total.
"It's always wonderful to have a project like this to show other folks in
Elkhart County what Middlebury can do" said Sam Pohl, Middlebury Chamber Director. "Middlebury always answers the call for someone in need. This project is a great one and to be able to organize during the monthly 3rd
Fridays event is even better. It's a chance to be a part of history!"
All food donated during the "ALL IN" food drive will be donated to Community Church Services regardless of hitting the world record. Community Church Services does provide some support to the Middlebury Food Pantry.
The Middlebury 3rd Fridays block party happens every third Friday of the month from April through December. The monthly block party is sponsored by the 3rd Fridays Merchants & Friends who are members of the Middlebury Chamber of Commerce.
